Unable to change call plan

I noticed on my prepaid account that my airtime was being used up quicker than usual. When contacting the call cente on 123, I was advised I was paying over R 2.50 per minute. There was a cheaper option of R 0.99 per minute - Free talk. I have been trying since monday morning to change to the better rate. I have used *101# - does not work refer to call centre is the response. I have tried *110#6# - this is not a valid selection. I have called the called centre three times today - get through to a champ, get put on hold and then they cut off the call. Shocking from the champs! On the third call I asked them to phone back if the call was dropped - they cant do that. Tell me why I should not port my number to another network.
