Impossible sim swop

Wife on pre-paid and required a micro-sim. Went to an MTN shop and they gave me a new micro sim and instructed me to call 173 for a sim swap. When calling there's a seemingly infinite number of options to select from the voice prompts, but nothing that obviously relates to a sim-swop. Anyways, selected "speak to operator", but keep getting "all lines are busy, please try again later" and it hangs up. After numerous tries I get hold of an agent. The agent says they need to ask security questions which I can fully understand. They ask what price-plan am on, never knew there were differences on pre-paid, so I say default (per second). Then they want to know when last topped up and for how much "again a dumb question" because we rarely use the number and won't remember exact day of top-up. Long story short, 3 agents later, still no joy.

How foolish is the MTN process? There are much better ways of ascertaining ownership of the number than the questions they ask. The fact that the sim is rica'd means could ask ID, address. They also can correlate that 2 sim# are rica'd to same ID. The fact that the sim was still in my possession and working opens even more possibilities.
