I had for the past week each day driven in to open a new bank account at Capitec after being a client for many years. Last week the consultant Shiree was stationed at the door issuing tickets and checking documentation before issuing a ticket. She checked my document which I deliberately made a certified copy of to ensure all was in order which she confirmed last week! Each day I went into the bank last week something delayed opening the account, either the last transactions did not clear or the server crashed the system. This morning I called to confirm that the server was up and running before making a trip to the bank - this was confirmed. The same consultant who checked my docs at the door then said the lease agreement could not be used because there was no date on the certified copy. I walked back to my car and provided her with the full 15 page document. She thereafter said the proof of residence was not required since it is that of an existing client - my sister who I forced to closed her Absa account to bank with Capitec. I had been compliant for a week and provided everything requested and was reciprocated with an attitude "I don't care if you open an account or not".
