FNB- So much for helping

I went to fill up my tank this morning and my card got declined, at first I thought the petrol station must be having problems but people around me could pay. I contacted FNB only to discover that my card has been blocked because they didn't't have my proof of residence (I have not received an sms or a call informing me of such). How can you just block my card and not inform me on a day that debit orders are meant to be off? I am truly disappointed and don't expect to pay extra for any debit orders that might have bounced because of this.
