Damaged Goods wait for replacement

My husband arranged a Galaxy 2 tablet for my birthday last week. Yesterday the sound stopped working - just within the 7 day replacement deadline. He took it back today and although the sales assistant can see that it is a fault, they need to send it to Vodacare centre to be "looked at" so that they can confirm there is no water or other negligent damage. This process we are told will take 5 working days! Assistant said that it is clear it is a factory fault but she cant replace without following that process. 5 working days? Will they be refunding me pro-rate for the time I am unable to use it - I doubt that! I am leaving on a trip this weekend and need it - what a farce! In cases like this where it is obvious there is no physical damage - within 6 days of purchase surely a manager can sign off a replacement. Vodacom I don't know why we stick with you - Hello Peter is thick with reports of your poor service and this is the second time I have had an issue like this with you - exactly the same thing happened with an HP laptop some years ago. Are you working with dodgy stock or am I just unlucky?
