ABSA Stil as bad as yesterday today and tomorrow

Yesterday (21/10/2013) I was doing shopping and at the till I pulled out my Virgin Money card to pay (as I did for the last year or so) - and then was informed that my card was declined! I phoned them and I was informed that my account has been put on hold from April 2012 because I did not resend them my fica documentation. WHAT!! I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION FOR 18 MONTHS FROM THEM!!! And now I stand red faced at the till because they slipped up!! And did not even want to assist me - who would want to do business with such a company. Then I requested for them to close my account - BUT NOW THEY WANT TO DO EVERYTHING TO KEEP ME AS CUSTOMER - sorry a bit too late!! I even have R766.56 in debit on my account and the transaction was for less than that amount!! I am sorry - but ABSA you still as bad as always. Why did all my other transactions gone through since April 2012 and why have I not received any other notifications that I need to resend my fica documentation - I mean I get my statements via email - why not send me notification via email, postal?? All I want now is my money back and to stop all relations with ABSA bank!! PLEASE IF I CAN SAVE YOU TROUBLE NEVER GO ABSA!!
