The courier was unable to hand my replacement Woolworths Black Card (administered by ABSA) over to me at my place of work as I 'do not comply with FICA regulations'. As requested, I provided a copy of my green bar-coded ID, with original for the courier to verify, and a copy of my utilities bill, the only acceptable document I can present - the rest show my postal address. So, what's the problem you ask? Well, as a victim of the postal strike and an environmentally conscious law abiding, tax paying citizen, my utilities bill is, wait for it, emailed to me and this makes it an unacceptable document in the eyes of ABSA Bank. I am speechless. I recently received my AMEX and Standard Private Bank Check cards on presentation of my computer-generated City of Joburg utilities bill without a problem. Different FICA rules for different banks then?
