My husband and I have recently relocated to Durban. I have battled for many years with the FICA problem at our previous home which was registered in my husbands name because I did not have a proof of residence. As our new home is registered in both our names I requested the municipality to put both names on the utilities bill. Sorry, no can do they say, their reason being that if we move again, the refund cheque would be issued in joint names and would not be able to be banked. Well, shouldn't they have solved this problem by having a field on the application that asks which name any future refund cheque should be issued in. This is unacceptable as I have to continue battling with FICA, the banks, the cellphone companies et al. I have reached the stage where I am going to give my residential address as one of my other properties that I do own in my own name even if these may be in another town or province. What else can I do?
