Cannot cancel contract, no income coming in

My bother has had complete kidney failure and a recent stroke, his buisness has failed and he has no income or savings, his wife has tried to cancel their business cell phone contracts but Vodacom are refusing and saying they must pay and honour the contract, it is impossible as neither of them are working due to the failure of his buisness which was causing by ill health
