VODACOM USES WATER DAMAGE TO GET OUT OF GUARANTEE

MY CELL PHONE IS UNDER GUARANTEE AND IS STILL IN PERFECTLY WORKING CONDITION, EXCEPT THAT ON THE TOP OF THE KEYBOARD, THERE ARE A FEW CHIPS.
I TOOK THE PHONE TO SANDTON AND THEY FORWARDED THE PHONE TO THE REPAIR CENTRE. I RECEIVED AN SMS THAT SAID I HAVE TO PAY R 2000 ODD BECAUSE THERE IS WATER DAMAGE. I SENT EMAILS ASKING HOW WATER DAMAGE COULD BE USED AS AN EXCUSE, BECAUSE THE DAMAGE IS ON THE FRONT OF THE CELL PHONE. I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN SWEATY HAND PALMS CAUSES WATER DAMAGE. AND AS SOON AS THERE IS WATER DAMAGE ON A PHONE THEN THE GUARANTEE IS NIL AND VOID. THIS IS TOTALLY AGAINST THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAD INSURANCE ON THE PHONE, I COULD PUT IN A CLAIM OR AS A LAST RESORT THEY OFFERED ME A CHEAPER PHONE. THIS PHONE IS UNDER GUARANTEE AND THE DAMAGE ON THE TOP IS NOT CAUSED BY WATER, THEREFORE THIS PHONE SHOULD BE FIXED OR REPLACED.
