I have an Apple Iphone 4s, which is about a year old. Last week it stopped charging. I am very particular with my phone and as my wife also has one, I tested the charger etc with her phone / charger. Clearly the problem was the iphone handset unit. As it is still under waranty I went to a Voda Shop at Sunninghill who said I must take the unit to Voda walk in centre Sandton for a replacement, which I did. I was told a replacement was not possible and it needed to go in for a repair. I was then informed that the repair would cost over R3000 and I should claim this on insurance, as the phone has water damage! As the phone has never had water near it spilt over it etc I know it has nothing to do with water damage.
I have been a vodacom customer since the first day cell phones were introduced to SA. Several years ago I had exactly the same experience (Nokia Phone), which they claimed was water damage. When I had it checked out and a report written it had nothing to do with water damage but rather a lose connection.
Vodacom clearly just do not want to honor the guarantee.
