Contract Upgrade

I have been a loyal MTN customer for the past few years now. I have two contracts to the value of more than R1000 a month. One of my contracts is in the 20th month and I enquired about my upgrade options. I went to my local MTN store and they indicated that I can only upgrade if I stay on the same package as I am currenlty on the Anytime 350 package which I feel is a bit excessive in relation to my needs and therefore would want to downgrade to an inferior package ASAP. I was told that because I want to downgrade I would either have to pay a huge penalty or wait until I am out of contract.

I would appreciate it if they could assist me as it seems all they want to do is take money from me for any reason as I am already wasting my money paying so much for this contract. I would ideally like to take out a smaller package and sign a new contract as soon as possible.
