Misleading customers to make money/Bad Service

I have been a customer with MTN for over 10 years on a top up 200 contract. Last month i went to MTN mall @reds because i was due for an upgrade, Sibongile assisted me with the upgrade and as i would assume the consultant can see my current package and do the upgrade on the exact same package that i am. this did not happen. the consultant instead not only did an upgrade for me but also changed my current contract/package to a higher or should i say "open line" package without any migration documents and without discussing it with me. after doing the contract i purchased airtime and data bundles to the value of R400 assuming that i am still on a top up contract. when i received my statement at the end of the month for R5719.27 i realised something was wrong and queried it. as much as the consultant admitted that she did not follow procedure and that she was at fault i am still expected to either pay this or make arrangements which i refuse to do. seriously? does MTN offer a service or is it a money making scheme? they are willing to fix my contract provided i pay the R5719.27 first? i have contacted 808 and the accounts dept and 1 week later i still have no response from MTN.
