Planet Fitness Auto Renewal Clause unhappiness
Most unhappy with Planet Fitness who apparently include in their fixed contracts an auto renewal clause. I'm not sure this is allowed in terms of the CPA? My two year upfront purchased and little used contract expired September 2012. As I was not attending gym regularly, I didn't bother to contact them again to renegotiate. I just let it expire. Or thought I did. The next I hear is from a hand over firm who contact me in Feb/March 13 advising me that Planet Fitness have handed me over. She enlightens me re the auto renewal clause which you are obliged to cancel or the contract continues. You would think they would advise you of this and perhaps send invoices to alert you to the fact. Before they hand you over. She had no proof of any correspondence or invoices. I asked her to get back to me. She didn't, they didn't. Nor do they like to answer their phones at either Head Office or Fourways. Eventually spoke to Sharon in accounts at Fourways who seemed helpless to assist further. I asked her to escalate the matter and get back to me. She didn't. Once again a struggle to get through to head office or Fourways to follow up. I have a perfect credit record. Please help
