I recently posted a complaint regarding the auto-renewal of my gym membership fee on a monthly basis after termination of my contract. I have noted the response from Planet Fitness which is the usual ' we need a month's notice in writing'
However the truth is:
1. I signed a 2-year fully pre-paid contract. At the initiation of the contract the matter of auto-renewal was discussed and I refused this option. I was asked for my banking details for 'payment of the levy only' . This is documented in my contract.
2. I received numerous telephone calls regarding renewal just prior to termination of the contract. Surprisingly I was not informed that I had to cancel in writing and I was led to believe that the contract would end at the designated time
3. I have looked at the complaints on Hellopeter. Clearly Planet Fitness deliberately misleads clients regarding auto-renewal of contracts. I lost R1200, but multiple this amount by numerous clients and the amount is substantial.
4. I have made several to contact Planet Fitness Wanderers/ Head Office expressing my dissatisfaction, I am still awaiting a reply. Clearly customer service is terminated with termination of the contract!
