South African Breweries
Non Payment of Insurance claim after 2 years

On 18 Sept 2011 my son was involved in a car accident which resulted in my car being written off. He was breathalysed on the scene and alcohol was detected. This was my personal vehicle which was covered by an insurance policy offered by SAB. The vehicle was sent to Pretoria (without my consent) to a scrap metal yard and the claim was put through to Eqstra for processing - I called them and they confirmed that the claim had been authorised by the insurance company however the SAB Accident committee had put a hold on payment due to the pending blood results. I continued to pay my monthly instalments of R4200 until such time that I resigned from the breweries (end Nov 2012). Upon resignation SAB informed me that I would not be issued with my final cheque until such time that I had settled the outstanding balance on my vehicle (R61938.47) which I paid. The blood results were then returned in December 2012 with no follow up from SAB - the result was that my son was not driving under the influence of alcohol however I have still not received payment / settlement after numerous requests for SAB to action. The insurance will only proceed on instruction from SAB... Very unhappy!
