Ridiculous cost of replacing batteries

I have a 10 year old formula 1 Tag.

It has always been my favorite watch, and every few years, the battery runs flat so I have to have it replaced.

This time, I took it to the same place as last - Arthur Kaplan in Menlyn shopping centre. I enquired after 2 weeks, and there was no feedback yet. Eventually, a week later I received a phone call. The salesperson told me that the quote was R1600. I just about choked. Apparently, there is a whole service and procedure that needs to be completed. I again told the salesman that there is nothing wrong with the watch, except the battery. He then advised that the minimum it would cost me would be in the region of R900, because they would have to replace all sorts of seals etc.

I have had the watch returned, and plan to have a local jeweler replace the battery now for R100, a far more reasonable, and expected amount.

I am disgusted that the charge from the tag service can be so high. I am also equally disappointed that at no stage was the offer made to replace the battery only.

I will not be recommending Tag watches to anyone again, and will refer them to other bands, who don't rip their customers off every few years.
