Hi. I joined Discovery Insure last year, and later in the year I had the misfortune of being hit by the huge hailstorm that wreaked havoc on the East Rand. I had to claim for both my cars and some household contents. I received a call from Discovery Insure yesterday informing me of a 30% increase in my premiums due to the fact that I had claimed! I was told then, and by another call centre consultant, and now by their retentions department that the instruction has come from the underwriters and is not negotiable. When I questioned that Discovery Insure would rather lose me as a client than review this increase, it was obvious that the answer is yes. I am dumbstruck!!! Needless to say I have no option but to shop around. I really don't understand why they would rather lose me and therefore any chance of recovering the monies they had to pay out for my claims! A formal response from someone in a position of authority would be appreciated.
