SA Passport has more security features than ID

Good Day

I would like to apply for a loan with African bank, A few months ago I misplaced my ID but I have a South African Passport that hasnt even come close to expiring. I was told I cannot use this. I am a SA Citizen by birth. Personally I feel that the SA passport has way more security features on than an ID.

I would like someone to assist me with my query as soon as possible.
