ATM swallowed my card, but my bank acc was emptied!

I went to withdraw taxi fare from the ATM in Mowbray, but the ATM swallowed my card. I proceeded to call the action hotline to cancel my card. I returned home to a NotifyMe message that my bank account was emptied.
I have R7 to my name, this inspite of the fact that I cancelled my card and was not in possession of it when the transaction took place.
I called the hotline again to have them tell me that I cancelled the card after the withdrawals.. BUT this begs the question, how could I have withdrawn my money without a card and who could have withdrawn my money without my pin???
I am absolutely furious!! I am a student at UCT and the money I had left was supposed to carry me until the end of my year. Saying "We also don't understand what could have happened" is simply not good enough.
