I had 2 cases of open with Standard bank. The first R1000 was withdrawn from my Credit Card account. As soon as I got the SMS I phoned the hotline and reported the incident and a case was opened. (I must say the person who I dealt with was very efficient and helpful) My Credit card was then cancelled. 2 days later, R1000 was withdrawn from my cheque account.
Both incidents happened at around 8-9pm. I has my cards in my possession at the time, and still have them with me now.
I left the cases with Std bank not expecting an immediate answer.
After not hearing anything for weeks, I followed up and was told I would not be receiving the money back. The reasoning was that both withdrawals were I go regularly, or maybe a friend had taken my card and withdrawn it without me knowing.
One of the incidents happened in Northcliff (I have never been there since I have lived in JHB), and both cards with me when it happened while I was home, so I don't see how there reasoning is viable.
I find it shocking how they can be so ignorant about it. As customers we should able to trust that our money is in good hands. It is disappointing to see how they can treat their customers.
