Standard Bank and Incompetency

I recently went to Standard bank atm and as usual I put in my card into the machine. The machine then "swallowed" my card.

I immediately called Standard bank to stop my card, and the lady that I spoke to said that she had stopped it, but before I could ask whether any money had been taken, I ran out of airtime. I then had to go buy airtime to call Standard bank again. I had to go through 5 different agents before I reached the final one who told that my money has been withdrawn. How can my money be withdrawn if I cancelled the card with Standard Bank? Standard Bank is now refusing to pay the money. They should refund me the money because the money was withdrawn after I had stopped the card, the missing money wasn't through any fault of mine because I followed all the right steps and therefore Standard Bank should pay my money back to me.
