Cancelled Flight Booking without any notice

Booked a flight from Victoria Falls to Durban via Johannesburg - had confirmation of my booking with me and they told me, at the desk, my booking had been cancelled - without any notice given. I was told I could try rebook - but the ticket now cost an extra $200! I had no choice as there are only two flights a day out of Victoria Falls (one with BA the other SAA) and I had my grandmothers funeral to attend, who had passed away the previous day (22nd of December). So instead of it being $360 for my infant daughter and I to fly it cost $560 ONE WAY via Joburg to Durban... My husband made phone calls asking for this to be corrected, nothing but 'sorry we can do nothing for you' was all we received...
