I bank with FNB Private Clients and had the misfortune of travelling to Durban without my bank card! Business finished earlier than expected and with no earlier flight, I had a nearly 3 hour wait at the airport. The Slow Lounge in Durban refused to allow me in without my card as they need to swipe the card for entry. While I understand this is the rule - is there no flexibility for people that decide not to travel with their bank card for a day trip? No manual method? What happens when systems are down?
What irritated me most was the lack of trying/flippant attitude from the 3 people I spoke to at the Slow Lounge in Durban to my Private Banker. Not any of them even tried to suggest an alternative. It was a "no card, no access - sorry for you" attitude. Perhaps they could have suggested I pay cash and get my private banker to sort out when I am back with my card. Scary to think that these people represent the bank that manages all my money! Perhaps I need to think about banking with another bank so I don't have all my eggs in one basket - especially if they are unable to manage something as mundane as manual lounge access!
