Incorrect claims against closed account

I moved to the USA on 16 March 2012. On 14 March 2012 I called Vodacom to cancel my cell phone contract that was due to end on 24 March 2013.

I was sent a premature cancellation quotation that I had to sign and then pay the balance of the contract (i.e. payout the 12 months of the contract in advance). I filled in the form, made an online payment of the amount quoted (in excess of R3000) and then sent Vodacom the documents including proof of payment. I have these supporting documents.

On 15 March 2012 I called Vodacom again to confirm that my payment was received, and that the contract and debit order were cancelled. I spoke to a woman called Kelebogile, I have the reference number of the call, and she confirmed that my contract was cancelled.

Last week I was contacted by a debt collection agency (Burnard, Raaff & Associates) informing me that I owe R3990 to Vodacom for my cell contract. In addition Vodacom has listed me as a credit defaulter on ITC!

I am beyond outraged and upset about this and would appreciate it if someone from Vodacom would contact me to correct this as this will affect my credit rating and job opportunities. Very bad form Vodacom!!!
