Vodacom denies me a contract with poor reason

I applied for a new contract for the iPhone 5. No one got back to me, one day I happened to call the store and ask if there had been any luck and they said oh yes your iPhone has arrived. So happy I rushed there to get it, only to be told I didn't pass their checks and didn't qualify for that contract?
I was a bit confused, as i have a really good salary, I have a woolworths card, pay rent, and have a decent credit history.
When I asked the guy in store he said the reason was I had an overdraft? I wasn't sure about this, as most people have an overdraft. So I asked if he could explain further. He couldn't.
I called another branch and they told me to contact the credit people. I called them and they said my credit history is great, there is no reason to be denied. I called the store again, and was told " you can't get this phone because you have an overdraft " I said yes, I know I have an overdraft could you explain further. They couldn't and were not helpful at all.
Getting really frustrated I went into a Cell C branch and was approved by them. Now Vodacom please could someone explain this to me, because you have just lost a potential, new customer.
