Handset not charging

Vodacom claims that my handset (Blackberry 9700 Bold) that stopped charging has water damage, the phone has never been dropped in the water, the battery went flat and it woulndt charge. They want to charge me an amount of R2000 for water damage without any proof of water damage. i have contract with them and that expires in April, but not prepare to replace my phone.

i have a friend who has the similar problem, but her phone was replace.
