Retail refuse to refund custome

I sent my cell phone to Charts connect for repairs last year, around August 2012. I was called by CHatz to pay them R345.00 and collect the repaired phone during October 2012.

Three days later the phone stopped functioning and I took it back to Chartz. They took it again for repairs and in December 2012 they called me and told me that the phone cannot be repaired, and I choose an item in their store to cover the payment I made to them. I told them at I don't need any item in their store but wanted my money back.

They told me that they will keep my phone and only after I have taken an item in their store will they give me my money back. I went to them again on the 12 November and to my surprise, they teared the receipt, gave me my old phone back and refused to refund my money back.

Please help.
