I tried to do the simple task to activating international roaming on my phone today.
1. I googled 'MTN contact number' and was shown a number of cryptic links. I clicked on one called 'Welcome to MTN'. Unfortunately the entire website is down today - [URL Removed] apparently does not exist. What a shocker.
2. I wrestled with the voice prompt for 36 minutes exactly. Apparently my (totally valid and currently in use) MTN number is not valid.
3. I got through to a VERY rude woman, who, because my line 'was not clear enough' put the phone down.
4. After wrestling with the computer voice for another 13 minutes, I got though to the prepaid department - BIG MISTAKE. I was told that I had called the wrong number (tisk, tisk), and was transferred to the contract department. The computer voice was having none of it however, and after telling me that I have an invalid number, cancelled the call.
5. When I finally got through to someone in the correct department, I was told that he would send me the ROAMING APPLICATION FORM via email. I have no faith that the email will ever arrive.
The worst part is; my colleague did the same on Vodacom this morning.. it took him 5 minutes and NO FORM!
