His incompetence may cost me money

I took out a contract in March 2013 for a laptop and I asked the consultant for insurance. We filled in documents and after everything was approved I asked him if all is done & if I was insured and he said yes. Three months down the line my house got broken into and when I wanted to claim from insurance I was told that I was not insured. I then realised that he needed to give me a separate document to complete for insurance of which he didn't and now I can't claim. The contract that I had signed clearly states that I am insured or asked for insurance but that was not put through the system and no one cared to follow up when recording the transaction on the system as to why there are no documents for the insurance. The store told me that no payment went off my account, which I checked but that is not the issue. All this time I thought I was insured and now I have to pay for a laptop that I don't have and for someone's incompetency of which I am not prepared to do.
