My cellphone account highjacked

I arrived in Australia on the 10th, I phoned my daughter once and send a few messages. Later on the same day MTN send me a sms telling me that my account has been suspended due to large account, over R11 000.
I put the phone on flight mode, and later switched it off and removed my simcard.
I have send numerous emails that was just returned to me with an automated response, telling me to phone them with my Mtn phone, which was suspended... how do I do that? I bought another prepaid phone and I'm still not able to speak to anyone at Mtn.
My daughter managed to get hold of them, to be told that the account now stood on R35 000, I'm still trying to get hold of anybody at Mtn with regards to this.
My daughter went to a Mtn shop and tried to get help with this matter, by then the account stood on R38 000 - how can it still be charged if my account has been suspended days ago? The shop attendant didn't want to put a block on my sim even though I gave permission to my daughter as I cannot be there myself.
Who is supposed to pay this bill? My phone is not even on... I'm at my wits end, what the is going on!
And should I phone my lawyer?
