Killing routers online

So, last Saturday afternoon I am a bit bored so I am lying on my back with the Tab, when I notice that my internet is a bit slow So, I decide to check my connection speed. 512 instead of 1024kbps. So I make the mistake: I call 10210. After confirming that I am calling from the number that I am calling about, keying in the number twice and pressing 1 to confirm that my number is absolutely positively the number I am calling about I get to speak to a real person, who immediately asks me for my telephone number. We go through al the pushing buttons and enterring other usernames and paswords and resets and, and... and eventually my learned friend on the other end of the line gets my router to tell me that I am now connected at 1536kbps! Guess what. Great speed but NO INTERNET. So I call 10210 again. confirm number punch in number, repeat, confirm, listen to music... engaged tone. REPEAT. Tell the next learned friend the whole story. press buttons, reset modem. lose wireless settings in process so have to dig up lan cable. NO GO. log fault. wait 4 days for technician. diagnosis: faulty router. My question: How did you do it?
