Cellphone does not accept network/sim

I bought a Vodacom phone on the 8th Jan, the sales lady assisting me explain that should I decide to use a different network and something technically goes wrong with the phone, I will not be able to return it for repairs as I would have forfeited the warranty. I then proceeded to explain to the lady that I would be using my Telkom sim card which is for business purposes. She said that is fine as long as I understand that they would not take it back if something goes wrong with the phone. I told I would take the responsibility of fixing it should such happen.

When I got home, I inserted my Telkom sim card and it didn't work. I then tried a different network and it worked. So I returned the phone to the store on the 10th Jan and the manager refused to take it. I explained to him that there was nothing wrong with the phone technically and it's just not compatible with my network which I had told the lady I I would be using. I told him if it had been explained to me that other networks would not work on the phone them I wouldn't have bought it. Now I'm stuck with a phone that does not accept my sim card? And the manager was rude!
