Hi
I popped into the Woolworths branch in Rondebosch (by Red Cross Children's hospital - Klipfontein Road) after work yesterday afternoon.
When I was paying for my goods, I noticed the cashier standing and asked why she didn't have a seat. I noticed that all the other cashiers did not have stools/chairs either. She advised that "management" had decided that they would be less inclined to be "lazy" if they were standing!! Having been standing myself for work for most of the day, I was exhausted. How can "management" take this sort of decision - I am sure none of them spend all day on their feet dealing with customer after customer. I really think this is a terrible decision by Woolworths - to me it shows scant regard for their staff and surely it is a violation of health and safety regulations? Even if it is not, I think it is a very poor show on their behalf. The cashiers were not complaining, I must stress and only volunteered after I asked. Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers - all provide seating for their cashiers. I REALLY think this sort of ill-thought idea should be re-considered!
