Accused of trying to return a "warn washed" item

3 Weeks ago I purchased a white men's cardigan from Edgars Clearwater. The item had been lying on the floor and had no tag. After trying it on at home I decided I would return it, and finally today I had a chance to do so.

The staff member in charge at Returns (I didn't get his name) refused to accept the item because according to him it had been worn and washed. He tried to convince me of this by comparing it to another cardigan - of a different colour and in my opinion not entirely the same material. He also referenced smudges on the cardigan (from it lying on the floor when I bought it) and the missing tag as proof that it had been worn.

How the cardigan could have been washed AND have smudges on it I have yet to understand. The staff member also dropped the no tag issue, I'm assuming because the system somehow shows when an item is sold without a tag, but wouldn't accept the possibility that no tag doesn't necessarily mean it's been worn.

If Edgars just retagged the item before or during the sale 3 weeks ago none of this would be an issue since it clearly couldn't have been washed WITH the tag and the staff member's claims would be invalid.

All in all, terrible service.
