In November 2011, I used the BabyReg box at Westville Hospital to apply for an abridged, and unabridged birth certificate for my newborn son. You get told that getting an unabridged one from home affairs later is a huge problem, so you are advised to get that as well, if you think you are going to need one in a few years.
When the birth certificate arrived, it has "unabridged" printed on it. I phoned and asked where the unabridged one was, and was told that it takes longer.
Several phone calls later, and all I get told is that it must be in the system somewhere, and they are known to to take a very long time.
It has been 2 years now, and still no sign of the unabridged birth certificate.
