Discovery Chronic care shows lack of care

Have been trying to get Chronic medication for Bloood Pressure covered since October 2012. Initial medication gave bad side effects so doctor prescribed alternative which has worked very well with no side effects. As it is slightly more expensive DFiscovery refuse to pay the extra cost. According to discovery I must first try other mediocations that are cheaper and then if there are no side effects they will again "consider" the circumstances.
Together with the above their lack of feedback in this regard where I have continually had to phone them back for answers is poor.
Why would a doctor linked in to all their systems prescribe a chronic medication that is not on their "formulary" unless he felt it was the right one for the patient. Clearly Discovery feel they know the patients better than the GP's who have been treating them for 15 years!!
All they care about is profit shareholders and bonusess
