Discovery Health are this year paying 100% from our MSA's for non-generic medication & then adding an additional 25% to our self payment gaps (SPG) for that medication. My daughter is ADHD & takes Concerta & Strattera daily, both very expensive medicines with no generics available. Discovery don't care that there are no generics available & still add the 25% to my SPG. Every year for the past 6 years I have run out of my MSA & closed my SPG & this year is going to be the same, which means that I will end up paying 125% for my daughter's medication. Discovery respond to this by saying we must go back to the Docotors so that they can prescribe equivalent treatments that have generic equivalents in the same medicine class. We have already had my daughter on all the other ADHD medications & they had severe side effects on her. The two non-generic medicines she is on now help with her condition immensely, with NO side effects. If generics existed for her current medication, I would gladly purchase them!! So Discovery, for my 6 year old daughter's well being & mental state of mind, why must I be penalised in paying 125% for her non-generic medication; for which no generic exists?? Mark.
