I had my grandmother over from overseas- her first overseas trip. Unfortunately she fell Ill on 23/12/2013, the problem was moderate but guess her aged body couldn't handle it. She required hospitalization on23/12/2014. Because she was an overseas patient, she was a private patient - not on medical aid, but did have travel insurance. So we were to settle everything cash. Prior to admission there was a R30000 deposit that was needed, which we paid. Grandmother felt better by the evening of the same day (NOT thanks to the physician dr nieman who only came to see her 12 hours after being called by the casualty doctor- all he did was discharge my grandmother. So I paid a physician to come and fill a discharge form, ridiculous). Of the R30000 deposit only around R1700 was billed as my grandmother was discharged in under 24hours. After a lot of pestering this deposit was only refunded to my account on the 14/1/2014 (3 weeks later). This was apparently because their hospital manager mr slabbert was on leave. A very helpful admin staff lady informed me that she had made him aware of this problem earlier last year, to which mr slabbert apparently showed no concern. A MONEY MAKING SCHEME!
