My grandmother is a 78-year-old pensioner and a decades-long (55 YEARS) subscriber to transnet's medical aid. In september of 2013 she had a fall, WHICH BROKE HER SHOULDER JOINT INTO FIVE (5) PIECES.
The attending doctor phoned transmed personally to get approval for joint replacement surgery to be done in Vanderbijlpark's Umfuleni hospital, since my grandmother lives in Sasolburg and it would not be feasible for her to have the surgery in Johannesburg general hospital, nor was there enough time to wait for her to be moved there, due to the amount of pain that she was obviously in. My mother and grandmother were both present when transmed granted approval for the surgery.
The bill has returned, and DESPITE THEIR PREVIOUS APPROVAL, TRANSMED SIMPLY REFUSED TO PAY THE BILL. After two hours on the phone with transmed's customer representatives, they finally said that all they really needed was a motivation from the doctor. This motivation, as well as x-ray and accident reports, have now been submitted and received, YET TRANSNET STILL REFUSES TO PAY THE BILL FOR SURGERY THEY APPROVED.
If this is the way that transmed treats their oldest clients, no one should risk becoming a new one.
