My Daughter has a deformity of the lower jaw whereby her lower jaw is shorter than the top part of the jaw. She's currently undergoing treatment by a Orthodontist trying to rectify the scenario, to which I'm paying for, we were told that she need a surgical procedure to extend het bottom jaw as she has difficulty processing her food due to this medical condition. The medical aid has decline authorisation for the hospitalization, twice, to this procedure as they describe it as a cosmetic surgery and not a medical condition regardless the numerous Doctor letters describing the deformity and reason therefore. At first they wanted me to upgrade to a higher plan, then I was told by one of the consultants that the higher plan also do not cover dental surgery, the more I tried to explain to them that this is not a dental scenario but a medical condition the more they keeping on reverting it back to cosmetic surgery. I have been a member of Bonitas medical aid for close to five years and this is the firs time I have asked for assistance, even if it's merely to cover the hospitalization. In short they are forcing me to consult other medical aid schemes.
