I am currently on the Discovery Keycare Plus medical aid plan; have been for the past 5 years or so. Now I need surgery to remove 3 wisdom teeth, it is so bad that I am getting infections in my mouth which is causing serious pain. I phoned the Discovery Keycare Plus approved dental specialist to find out what the codes are for the surgery. Got the codes and phoned Discovery to find out if my plan covers it. It doesn't, so there is nothing they can do for me. Not being able to stand the pain anymore I decided that I will then upgrade to a better, more expensive plan with Discovery to get the surgery done as I cannot afford to pay the R14 000.00 cash that the operation would cost. Today I phoned Discovery to find out if the plan I wish to upgrade to covers the surgery and to apply for the upgrade. BUT then they kindly inform me that they will only allow me to upgrade my plan in January next year. I cannot believe this!!! and this is not the first surgery they have denied me (need a nose op. to clear my airway - cannot breathe properly so I wake up with headaches every day, but Discovery decided 'too bad - that is 'cosmetic'. They take my money every month, but won't help me. WHY???!
