So tonight I had the misfortune to try HQ restaurant on 100 Short Market Street in Cape Town, after hearing and reading great reviews!

To my great dismay, dinner reservation was for 6pm. Being punctual, we arrived at 5:50pm, to be shown to the table by our hostess.

From the word go, I can see our table is not fully set, because some tables have breadsticks... At 6:15pm a waiter finally acknowledge us and ask what we want to drink... And hey, lets skip anything else and go straight to the famous steak... At 7pm we finally get a sirloin steak that to my meaning was a little bland, really tough and chewy, and guess what, the fries on my plate is warmer and fresher than the meat...

By the way, after dinner, since I am sitting right next to the kitchen, I think I have learned that after you grill meat, it needs to rest for about 10-15min while they put fries in the plate, and garlic? Butter over the steak and try to figure out what steaks are Rare, medium, sacrificed to some unknown deity etc!

But hey, great value for money considering its the BEST fries I've ever had @ R169? I think?

Oh, and I wasn't alone, so friends from overseas will also be writing!
