I was at the Woodlands Mall Ocean Basket for lunch on a Sunday about 3 weeks ago, and was really disappointed. I ordered the "da beeg one" seafood combo, which consists of grilled calamari, a piece of fish and about 4 or five prawns. The calamari was tough and burned and had the consistency of rubber, the fish was a tiny portion that was dry (probably freezer burn) and tasteless - like eating cardboard, and the prawns hardly had any flesh on the shells. I have not been to an Ocean Basket in a long time, and really felt like sea food that Sunday. I remember the Ocean Basket from when they first opened in Menlyn a few years ago, the portions were huge, juicy and very tender - this was true for the fish, calamari and prawns. I remembered this and that is why I returned to the Ocean Basket a few weeks ago' only this time it was a huge disappointment unfortunately. It seems a very South African phenomenon that restaurants that open are great their first 2 or three years and then the quality standards radically drop... perhaps they simply lose interest in their customers when they have made their money? It is such a pity!
