I made purchases with my Standard bank cheque card in December and got the usual notification sms from the bank to advise that payment went through and to update my account balance. Some transactions then only got debited on the 7th of Jan which put my account into overdraft. I also got charged an extra R 120 honouring fee per transaction because I did not have funds available. I phoned Std Bank to query this and was told it was a "technical error on ABSA's card machines" and they can't do anything about it. So... this technical error from another bank now costs me, their client, R 2365. When I said I can't afford to have this go off my salary month end they told me to go to a branch to make payment arrangements to pay it off! I asked for a supervisor and he told me to be a responsible acc holder and not spend funds which I do not have! How could I as I got a sms after every transaction to tell me the funds went through immediately! A customer service operator logged fee reversal requests for me but I was told there's no guarantee I'll get these fees back and I have to wait 12 working days. Standard Bank, technical errors from other banks should not cost YOUR clients money.
