First National Bank
ATM, client's fault or the bank's???

On the 31st of January 2013 I went to the nearest ATM to withdraw cash. There was a queue which I also joined and when it was my turn I inserted my card, punched in my PIN then and couldn't do anything further coz my the machine just froze and my card got stuck. I borrowed a phone and tried to call the 0800 number provided at the ATM to cancel my card but there was no response. After a few minutes I rushed home which is about 2 minutes away to cancel my card online. The moment I set my foot on the door, I got the 1st notification of withdrawal from my account. It took me less than 15 minutes from the ATM and cancelling my card online in which they 3 transactions of an amount of R1800.10 was made from my account.

Now FNB tells me that they won't refund me because my PIN was compromised!!! What on earth gives them the right to tell me that when it was my card which was compromised in the 1st place by finding its way out of their SO-CALLED trusted ATM? How did it come out because I left it stuck there? Why is FNB helpline not 24hr service?

I am very disappointed and I am going to cancel my Accidental cover I recently opened with them and also switch to another bank.
