Yesterday a lady by the name of Lena called my office and wanted to confirm my personal details, identity number, salary etc... She claimed that Nedbank asked her to confirm these details, because I owe Nedbank money. When I asked her for the details relating to this issue, she couldn't give me any, she just said that Nedbank asked her to call my office and obtain these details. I want to know if such a thing is even legal? So anyone can just obtain your personal details and then commit because they are now in possession of your personal details. my question is, if I owe Nedbank money, they should have my identity number and personal details on file, isn't it? I have Lena's telephone number and I would like to know if Nedbank has really instructed Lena to call on their behalf, if so can I formally complain to the NCR about this unprofessionalism, luckily I am informed about issues like this at my workplace, and I can investigate, but what about other people that this happens to on a daily basis and they are unaware of their personal details just being given to random people who call their workplace.
