On the 4th of January, I phoned the Fourways branch to enquire what documents I need to bring with me to open an account with FNB. I explained very clearly to the customer relations person on the phone that I am on a temporary residence permit having studied, worked and lived in South Africa close to nine years. I have accounts in two other banks as well. I gathered the information needed and headed to the branch and was served by the most obnoxious lady ever. My passport has an extension stamped on it as is the norm with passports from my country of which is recognised by the home affairs and other institutes when I have presented it as a valid ID. The lady informed me that FNB did not accept such and went to confirm that with an ADMINISTRATION person. I asked her to check with the manager of which she was hesitant and went on to list several other documents that were needed. Now I wonder why the standard isnt the same across the office given that I have phoned prior to making my way to the branch so as to ensure I had all I needed. To make matters worse, the lady was shouting while talking to me and I had to ask her a few times to use her inside voice as I wasnt hard of hearing.
