Old Mutual
Reasonable expectations

Greetings, in 2005 I took out the Old Mutual Greenlight Comprehensive Physical Impairment Benefit the main reasons being;1. It sells itself as a COMPREHENSIVE Physical Impairment Benefit 2. It is a non-occupation specific policy, as a self-employed plumber this was a major drawcard 3. It offered a lump sum payment should your lifestyle change due to an injury. On the 14th Feb 2011 I had a work related accident with an angle grinder and chopped my arm in half. To cut a long story short I had emergency surgery, the surgeon filled in the Old Mutual supplied claim form which I submitted. I was defered for 6 months until August, I had 2nd & 3rd operations during the year as I suffered Non-Union of the Ulna, we filled in the forms again where my surgeon clearly stated that I suffered a PERMANENT PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT. I was defered again until January 2012. It was at this point that I approached the Ombudsman.. to say that this was a year of my life wasted is an understatement. The problem with the Policy is that the Claim form, the terms and conditions and the sales pitch contradict each other. Old Mutual demand total Loss of the use of only, saying that Physical Impairment is Total Loss
