INCORRECT ARREARS LISTING AT CREDIT BEREAU

I recently had a account dispute with RCS where they informed me that my account is two months in arrears. I immediately made contact with RCS and informed them that I paid my account via internet, it was discovered that I missed one digit in my reference block. However this was picked up and I communicated to RCS in all the 5 emails to send them to make sure that the account information is updated accordingly at the credit bureaus. I checked every day for the past week to make sure that this is the case, because I know what effect this will have on my credit scoring, also knowing this late payment will take me 3 months or longer to build a good score again. To my utter disappointment this account show late at all the credit bureaus. Now my question is here who is actually in control of your credit report if creditors can just do as they like, and this due to incompetent staff...
